What is Points Rummy?
Points Rummy is an exciting and fast-paced version of the Indian rummy game. This is one of the 13 card rummy rummy game variants, along with deals rummy and pool rummy. Also known as 80 Points Rummy or 13 Card Rummy, this game typically involves 2 to 6 players competing for points, each with a pre-decided rupee value. Depending on the number of players, one or two standard decks are used, featuring one printed joker per deck. The player who makes a valid declaration first becomes the winner with zero rummy points, and the total points of their opponents determine their winnings.

Gameplay
1. Once you've joined a Points Rummy contest, you'll be dealt 13 cards randomly from a standard deck, including 2 printed jokers and 4 wild jokers.
2. The game begins with the first card being placed face-up in the open discard pile, and the remaining cards forming the closed draw pile.
3. On your turn, you can either draw a card from the draw pile or pick the top card from the discard pile.
4. Your objective is to arrange your 13 cards into valid sets and sequences, including at least one pure sequence and one impure sequence or set.
5. You can use the wild jokers to complete your sets and sequences, but the printed jokers cannot be used to form a pure sequence.
6. To make a valid declaration, you must have at least two sequences, including one pure sequence.
7. If you make a valid declaration with zero unmatched cards, you win the game and earn the best possible score of 0 rummy points.
8. If you have unmatched cards after making a valid declaration, your point value is deducted from the total card points of each player.
Points Calculation
- Ace, King, Queen, and Joker cards are worth 10 points each.
- Number cards (2-10) are worth their face value.
- Printed jokers and wild jokers have 0 points.
- The maximum number of points a player can have, including the jokers, is 80.
Calculating the Winner's Winnings
- The player who makes the first valid declaration with zero unmatched cards wins the game.
- The winner's winnings are calculated as follows:
(Total Points of All Opponents) x (Rupee Value of Each Point) = Winner's Winnings
Calculating the Losing Players' Scores
- When a player makes a valid declaration, the points of the other players' ungrouped cards are calculated as their penalty points.
- For example, if a losing player has 3 ungrouped cards (7
♠, A
♥, 9
♠), their penalty points would be 7 + 10 + 9 = 26 points.
- If a player hasn't made a pure sequence, the total points of all their cards, including sets, are counted towards their penalty points.
- The maximum penalty points a player can have is 80 points, even if the calculated score is higher.
- If a player has made a pure sequence, only the points of their ungrouped cards are counted towards their penalty points.
Calculating Drop Points
- Players can choose to 'Drop' out of the game if they have a weak hand or bad cards.
- There are three types of drops:
1. First Drop (20 points penalty) : Player drops without picking any card from the draw pile.
2. Middle Drop (40 points penalty) : Player drops after picking at least one card from the draw pile.
3. Consecutive Misses (40 points penalty) : Player is automatically dropped out after missing 3 consecutive turns.
Remember, the goal in Points Rummy is to make valid declarations with zero unmatched cards to win the game and earn the maximum possible winnings based on your opponents' penalty points.
